Allerede i 20’erne fik Lincoln økonomiske problemer, men blev først overtaget af Ford Motor Co. i 1940, hvor Lincoln blev en division i Ford Motor Co. I 1945 købte Ford bilmærket Mercury, og oprettede en Lincoln-Mercury Division. I 2012 oprettes det nuværende selskab The Lincoln Motor Company, stadig med hovedkvarter i Dearborn, Michigan.
